Monaco has taken another step in the implementation of its Smart Principality programme: an autonomous electric shuttle is now operating on the Rock for residents and tourists.
Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Infrastructure and Environment, said: ‘The aim of this experiment is ultimately to reduce the use of personal cars, to develop public transport and to promote smooth travel. We are entering a period of learning about this type of future mobility for the future.”
She added that if the experiment proves successful, shuttles could be used as night buses and to extend the range of services during the day.
Frédéric Genta, Interministerial Delegate for Digital Transition, added: “Inevitably, in the short and medium term, the transport of tomorrow will be autonomous. This shuttle on the Rock is not a revolution today, it is nevertheless part of an essential development for the development of future transport.”
