AS Monaco play the first match of the new season tonight, Friday, August 9, at home against Olympique Lyonnais.

“I think we had a good pre-season. We have worked hard and played friendlies against good European teams,” coach Leonardo Jardim told a press conference on Thursday. “I preach hard work. That is the most important. There are many examples of teams having a bad season and picking up on the next one. It’s a new season. A new challenge. We must take it match after match and it starts Friday against Lyon.”

The Portuguese coach added that Lyon came third place in the League last season, and it is a big team that has always wanted to be at the head of the French League.

“It will not be easy, but as always we will do our best to win this match,” the seasoned coach said. “My goal is for this group to be strong collectively and not just a sum of individualities.”

The match kicks off at 20:45 at Stade Louis II. Falcao and Golovin are both under suspension.
