Gilles Tonelli has been appointed by Prince Albert II to lead the continuing negotiation of an Association Agreement with the European Union. Mr Tonelli will take on his role on October 21 as Ambassador – Special Adviser.

In making the appointment, the Sovereign Prince said that the preservation of Monaco’s special characteristics and its economic and social model remain his priorities in the conclusion of an Agreement. He expressed his confidence in Mr Tonelli.

Over the past four years Mr Tonelli has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and will be replaced in that post, also on October 21, by Laurent Anselmi, formerly director of judicial services in Monaco.
