Lancaster to lay off 24 workers in Monaco

Lancaster, the Monaco-based cosmetics company, is laying off 24 workers, 10 percent of its workforce. In response to the news, 60 employees of the company, which was first established in 1946, demonstrated outside Stade Louis II on Wednesday, November 6.

“The age and unique know-how of the Monaco production site are key, especially for our Lancaster brand. It is within this framework that we confirm that we have begun a process of consultation with the employee representative bodies in order to maintain the competitiveness of this strategic site for our company, as well as to guarantee its durability,” a spokesman for the Coty Group, owner of the Monaco brand, said.

Lancaster is a leading premium skincare brand and celebrated its 70 anniversary three years ago. The company claims that its products protect the skin against the sun’s entire spectrum.

“UV rays represent less than 10 percent of the sun’s rays, while Infrared rays and visible light represent over 90 percent of the sun’s radiation and can reach the deepest layers of the skin, accelerating premature ageing. Despite this, traditional sunscreen’s only offer UVA and UVB protection,” Lancaster said at the time.
