Monaco up their game with 1-0 home win against Dijon
Following a disappointing 0-1 loss to long-standing league rivals Saint-Étienne in the previous fixture, AS Monaco FC upped their game at home on Saturday, November 9, against Dijon with a 1-0 win.
Right from the 8 o’clock starting whistle Monaco appeared to be the dominant attacking force. Slimani was very present on the pitch after missing out on the previous fixture and proved to be instrumental in applying pressure upfield. The striker was able to contribute to the scoreline with a sharp assist to Monaco midfielder Golovin who, in the 42nd minute, managed to slot the ball into Dijon’s net to the excitement of the home side supporters.
After the match resumed Dijon had become much more offensively orientated bringing the ball into Monaco’s box at an alarming rate. In total the visitors had taken nine corners and 15 shots at goal. However, only three were actually on target as the Monegasque defensive unit applied pressure and Lecomte again and again reached to intercept corner balls before they could become a real issue.
As the final whistle blew to mark the end of the game, the Principality side were able to celebrate a 1-0 victory which can certainly be owed to a great group effort. It should be noted that Dijon’s previous fixture concluded in a 2-1 victory against PSG, Monaco’s greatest competition in the league, so that should inspire the boys in red and white ahead of their clash against the Parisians at the beginning of December.
Before that, Monaco will be facing off against Bordeaux on Sunday November 24, away at 14:00 local time.
