The Rainier-III tunnel will be closed to traffic between 09:00 and midday on Thursday, November 21, for drilling tests involving localised explosions.

The tests are needed in order to find out more about the geology in the neighbourhood of the tunnel where an escape and rescue tunnel is planned. The timing of the closure is to avoid the morning commute along this important artery into Fontvieille.

The tests will occur at about 60 metres below ground and no vibrations are expected to be felt. Four more temporary closures of the road tunnel are planned.
