Star substitute saves the day as Monaco beat Toulouse
Following a disappointing loss against Bordeaux which saw Slimani receive a red card, Monaco are back in action. On the December 4 the boys in red and white faced off against Toulouse on opposition territory.
It only took five minutes for the Principality side to score as Ben Yedder successfully took a penalty. Fans on both sides of the Stadium de Toulouse were able to watch a second penalty goal as Toulouse striker Sanogo was able to just get it past Lecomte at the 40th minute, making it 1-1 at half time.
In an apparent effort to apply offensive pressure, coach Jardim substituted defender Maripán out for striker Gelson Martins at the 67th minute. This decision proved to be vital as Martins was able to score his first goal of the season in the 84th minute. Toulouse were unable to counter in the remaining minutes of the match.
Statistically speaking this victory was well earned by Jardim and his side. However, the extra three points have only moved Monaco to 13th place on the table. Portuguese international striker Martins might expect to have more game time in future fixtures such as the forthcoming match against Amiens SC at home on December 7 at 20:00 local time.
