AS Monaco suffered a surprising home defeat to Toulouse at the Stade Louis II on Sunday, February 18, following on from an emphatic Cรดte d’Azur derby victory the previous weekend.

The hosting Monegasques conceded the first goal of the match late into the first half, as visiting midfielder Vincent Sierro managed to find the back of the net with a free kick to make it 0-1 at the 41st minute.

Down but not yet out, the Monaco squad reemerged from the locker room with renewed energy, and found the equaliser not long thereafter courtesy of young striker Maghnes Akliouche at the 48th minute.

It was another set piece that proved to be decisive. Toulouse defender Logan Costa recovered the ball on a corner and finished the play with a goal of his own to bring the visitors back in front with 30 remaining minutes in the match.

Monaco youngster Eliesse Ben Seghir came close to finding another equaliser, but his header was ruled offside. The Monegasques were unable to find the back of the net again before the final whistle solidified a less than ideal 1-2 home loss.

The next fixture may pose more of a challenge, as Monaco face RC Lens away on Sunday, February 25.
