On Tuesday 17 December, 30 students from the Cote d’Azur who participated this summer in Outward Bound programmes in Ullswater (the English Lake District) and Aberdovey (North Wales) were reunited for the prestigious Outward Bound Monaco annual awards ceremony in the beautiful location of the Yacht Club de Monaco.

Surrounded by friends, patrons and members of Outward Bound Monaco and their parents, the proud students received their diplomas from the Patron of Outward Bound Monaco, HSH Prince Albert, who praised their courage and resourcefulness in the face of the challenges that an Outward Bound programme offers.

Sarah O’Connor, President of Outward Bound Monaco commented: “The positive effect which Outward Bound can have on the development of young people’s lives is clear in the testimonies we hear from the students at our Awards evening. I thank all our supporters and helpers who make this possible, and also our patron H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco for yet again finding the time to meet them and present their certificates”.

Ed Calonghi said of his Outward Bound course “I completed the expedition and felt so proud of what I had achieved. Surprisingly, I am now sad that it’s over. I never ever thought I’d say that!”.

Theo Ingall aged 16 said of his course: “I’m more confident within and with other people now that I have an idea how we can perform as a team, and what I can bring to the group. Can’t wait to do it again next year!”

The evening was full of pride and excitement for the students, aged 11 to 17 years old, who gave time, energy and passion this summer to do something which pushed their personal barriers, but rewarded them with a sense of achievement at overcoming new challenges as well as having great fun!
