Government ministers have given details of the measures that will be needed when the hospitality sector reopens on June 2.
At a press conference on Wednesday, May 20, Minister of Finance Jean Castellini and Minister of Health and Social Affairs Didier Gamerdinger said that reservations will be mandatory in restaurants, tables will have to be at least 1.5 metres apart, there can be a maximum of six people at each table, and menus will be displayed digitally. Waiting staff will wear face masks.
There can be no live music or karaoke and at bars customers must be seated.
Museums and exhibition halls can be reopened on condition that a one-way system is operating. Casinos and gaming rooms can reopen with social distancing rules in place and regular cleaning of dice and tokens.
On the beaches, the ‘dynamic’ rule will no longer apply, but towels must be placed with respect to social distancing of 1.5 metres. The performances at Fort Antoine will be permitted, but with fewer audience members and social distancing.
Individual sports including competitive swimming, collective and contact sports will require a specific discipline-by-discipline approach between the federations concerned and the Department of Health Affairs.
Indoor cinemas, discos sports halls and collective spas will not be allowed to reopen on June 2, but will have to wait for further improvements in the health situation. Recreational pools will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
