Since his £36 million transfer to Monaco at the beginning of last season, Wissam Ben Yedder has certainly proven his worth. The 29 year old finished the 2019/20 season as the joint top scorer of Ligue 1 alongside Kylian Mbappe with 18 goals.

The France international has made a considerable impact on the Principality side which narrowly avoided relegation at the end of the previous season, as the reigning champions only managed to secure 17th place in the table, thus handing the crown to Ligue 1 giants PSG.

It is no surprise that Ben Yedder has attracted the attention of some of the British Premier League’s top flight teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. While the BPL would be an exciting challenge for the opportunistic striker, Monaco Vice-President Oleg Petrov has made it clear that Ben Yedder is a player that the club wishes to hold on to.

“We still want to keep Wissam. He is a great asset to the club, a great pro.” Petrov told RMC Sport. “We expect him to stay in Monaco, There is no question of him leaving the club”

Ben Yedder’s performance in the 2019/20 season has lead him to claim his deserved spot on the Ligue 1 TOTS. Subsequently his statistics on the popular football video game FIFA20 are comparable to those of other football greats such as Ronaldo and Messi

The French international has previously been linked to a move to LaLiga giants Barcelona. “Barcelona could have happened much earlier for me,” he told Onze Mundial. “Last summer they made contacts for me, they collected a lot of information about me and the same was true this winter, but the move did not happen. It shows I am doing a good job, but despite this interest, I am totally focused on my performances with Monaco.”

It seems that spectators at Stade Louis II will be able to continue to celebrate Ben Yedder’s magic goals for a while to come.
