Following a week-long training camp in Poland, the boys in red and white took to the pitch, this time as visitors to German side Eintracht Frankfurt. The fixture was held on August 1, three weeks before the resumption of Ligue 1 and was the third fixture of Monaco’s preseason.

The German hosts created a fair few chances in the beginning of the game but Monaco goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte was able to keep the opposition at bay. Until the 59th minute, which saw Frankfurt’s Gonçalo Paciência outstretch the French goalie as he found the back of the net with a sharp left footer.

The Portuguese player was happy to bag a goal on his 26th birthday

Nico Kovak responded immediately by swapping out his entire team at the hour mark. All 11 players on the pitch were replaced by a younger and less experienced squad. The decision swiftly paid off as Monaco’s 19 year old Anthony Musaba was able to capitalise from a deflection and record his first goal for the Principality side.

After the match, the young Dutchman said “I am proud to have scored my first goal for AS Monaco.” The first of many we hope. The red and whites won’t be playing again until August 15 in another preseason friendly versus AZ Alkmaar.
