A scooter driver over the drink-driving limit hit a small dog on the quayside in Fontvieille, resulting in the pet’s death, Monaco’s Criminal Court was told. The animal had belonged to the captain of a boat moored in the harbour.

Appalled witnesses to the incident in the evening of August 11 alerted the police, local French-language daily Monaco Matin reported.

The defendant had a similar conviction for drunk driving in 2018. While the prosecution proposed a prison sentence, split into weekend sojourns, the court decided on a fine of 2,000 euros.
