After no new cases were reported on Friday, five Monaco residents tested positive on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Continuing a trend, most cases – 37 – are mild or with no symptoms and those concerned are being supervised by the health authorities while recovering at home. One resident is in the Princess Grace Hospital in intensive care.
Meanwhile, in France 5,413 new cases were reported on Sunday, August 30, and only four new deaths. This is a pattern that is being repeated across Europe, a high number of cases and a low number of deaths.
However, health, work and travel policies are all being determined on infection rates. Most immunologists agree that there are two reasons for high case rates. The first is the fact that the virus is circulating more, predominantly among young people, who can better resist it, and the second being the high testing rate compared to the early months of the crisis.
In the meantime, there were 1,715 recorded new cases of coronavirus in the UK, and one new death. An average of 450 people die of cancer in the UK every day.
