Four out of six Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Departments have been classified as “Red-Zones” following a surge in coronavirus cases and Alpes-Maritimes is one of them. The Department which surrounds the Principality of Monaco must now subscribe to the ‘Plan Blanc’ or white plan which should allow its hospitals to quickly mobilise resources if a second wave does hit.
That second wave seems to be steadily approaching as numbers rise worryingly. On September 8 there were 539 coronavirus cases in the hospitals of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. A sharp increase in intensive care patients with coronavirus has also been noted by Agence Regionale De Sante as 87 patients currently occupy intensive care beds, an addition of 37 patients compared to the previous week.
Alongside the 480 care beds available in intensive care units already, an additional 110 beds have been made available to Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur hospitals. The Director of Care for the regional health organisation, the Agence Regionale de Sante, Anthony Valdez, said “Covid is having a weak impact on hospital capacity for the moment, but we need to stay vigilant.”
