Late on Thursday evening, the Government announced two cases of coronavirus among schoolchildren, including a young primary school student (CE2) at the François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré school in Monaco-Ville. The young girl will recover at her home over a 14-day period.
The 24 pupils in the class and the teacher who have been in contact with the pupil will undergo PCR screening.
At Charles III College, it was a 6th grade student who tested positive. Here, too, teachers and pupils who have been in contact with the pupil will be offered a PCR test. The parents have been fully informed about the screening.
The two students are considered by health experts as “contacts of negligible risk,” since, like their classmates and teachers, they wore a mask in class and complied with all the barrier measures in place. The risk of contamination is therefore very low.
Classes will continue in both schools with heightened barrier procedures. Distancing and hand-washing will be increased and the restricted use of personal items emphasised.
Student temperatures will be taken twice a day in both classes for the next 14 days. The authorities remind parents that the wearing of masks is compulsory for all school staff and for all pupils over five years old.
